Arrival Student eBook

A$29.95

Our Arrival Student Book engages students in an enjoyable and detailed study of Denis Villeneuve’s acclaimed film for the NSW Stage 6 Standard English Focus Area: Close Study of Literature. It has been designed to develop students’ detailed and informed knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the film as a rich, complex text.

To develop their own considered personal response to Arrival, students will engage in a wide range of activities that invite them to respond to the film in both critical and creative ways. This includes tasks that require students to compose in the imaginative, persuasive, reflective, and discursive styles of writing. By working through the activities in this student book, students will strengthen their understanding of: the film’s narrative and key moments, the central ideas Villeneuve encourages audiences to consider (including language, time, perception, and human connection), the film techniques that create meaning, and the way the film’s structure shapes audience interpretation. Students will also learn how to support their judgements using detailed evidence, including technique analysis and close reference to significant scenes.

This student book is a highly valuable resource for students and teachers. It includes:

  • Engaging classroom activities to develop skills in analysis, interpretation, and evaluation of texts.

  • A clear focus on film as literature, with explicit guidance on film techniques and structure.

  • Tasks that build confident, evidence-based personal and critical responses.

  • Opportunities for creative composition linked directly to the film’s ideas and style.
