The Poetry of WH Auden Student Book
The Poetry of WH Auden Student Book
The Poetry of WH Auden Student Book engages students in an enjoyable and detailed study of selected poems from across WH Auden’s writing career. It has been designed as a study option for Year 11 Advanced English Module B: Critical Study of Literature.
In order to develop their own considered personal response to the selected poems, students will engage in a variety of activities that require them to respond to the poems in both critical and creative ways. This includes tasks that require students to compose in the imaginative, persuasive, and discursive styles of writing. By working their way through the different activities in this student book, students will improve their understanding of the ways Auden captures the tyranny of time and the folly of the modern world, whilst offering us love as the only answer to all that ails us.
The poems covered in this student book include:
‘O what is that sound which so thrills the ear’ (1932)
‘Spain’ (1937)
‘Refugee Blues’ (1939)
‘Epitaph on a Tyrant’ (1939)
‘In Memory of W.B. Yeats’ (1939)
’September 1, 1939’ (1939)
‘The Unknown Citizen’ (1939)
‘The Shield of Achilles’ (1952)
‘Moon Landing’ (1969)
‘Archaeology’ (1973)
