Incursion Description

This incursion introduces Year 11 Standard and Advanced students to the discursive writing style by:

  • Clarifying the purpose of discursive writing, the most common features of pieces written in this style, and the ways pieces of writing can be structured.

  • Applying knowledge of the discursive writing style to an exemplar text to arrive at a better understanding of the mechanics of a piece of writing written in this style.

  • Using their understanding of the form and content of this exemplar text as stimulus for their own unique piece of discursive writing.

Designed to demystify discursive writing, this incursion helps students get to grips with the purpose and mechanics of a piece written in this style.
